The name of the settlement comes from ancient Koropi (8th century BC), a small town in the area, which also had a temple dedicated to the god Apollo.[5] On the "Petralona" hill, there are remains of an ancient wall, near the church of Agios Ioannou as well as "invisible remains of the Sanctuary of Koropaios Apollo (Stoa)" at the foot of the hill.
